Construction
As a custom shop we recognize that it is crucial to communicate
effectively with our clients from conception through to all stages
of construction to ensure that all the client’s requirements
are satisfied.
Although JP Custom Guitars has its own concepts and designs available
as a starting point we can also work from or incorporate designs
and sketches provided by the client.
In both cases we always we always proceed through the following
process:
Ergonomic Study
Firstly, we analyze all direct contact between instrument and musician
to ensure user comfort with the final model. This takes into account
the client’s stature, posture, hand size and playing technique.
From this study we choose the scale length, the neck shape and overall
fit of the instrument.
Choice of Wood and Type of Construction
The instruments produced by JP Custom Guitars are constructed from
100% solid wood. In making the choice of which type
of wood to use we take into account many factors. This includes
appearance, colour and tonal characteristics of the wood.
Also a crucial point is whether the instrument is ‘Bolt-on’,
‘Set-in’ or ‘Neck-through’.
Choice of Electronics and Hardware
At this stage a choice is made of the type of pick-ups and pre-amps,
taking into account the required sound characteristics. An optimization
is also made by the number and positioning of the control knobs
and switches. The types of bridge (tremolo or solid) and headstocks
are also chosen.
Visual Aspects
There is a wide choice of colours and finishes for the instrument
and hardware. The instrument colours may be natural wood, waxed,
gloss, matt, transluscent or solid colour etc. Hardware is in chrome,
metal, gold or black. The instrument can be personalized with friezes,
inlays and paintwork as required.
Tuning and Final Adjustments
Finally, adjustments and tuning are carried out in the presence
of the client to ensure that the final sound characteristics and
instrument response meet all of the customer’s requirements.
All instruments made by JP custom Guitars come with after sales
technical assistance.
